I have spoken with many women who work in the field and the most named challenge is stress and burnout (long hours, low pay, not feeling valued or taken seriously), quickly followed by struggling to stay positive. Feelings of powerlessness, loneliness and guilt are also very common.
I have also spoken with a lot of people who don’t work in the field but do their best to do the right thing, eg recycle their waste, install solar panels, use refillable cups and bottles or talk to their neighbours to name a few things.
Whether you work in the field or not, a lot of you feel like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. You feel a great responsibility to contribute to real change, but often powerless to do so. And you may feel guilty every time you take an imperfect action, such as forgetting to bring your own coffee mug…while it appears that hardly anyone else seems to care! It can feel very lonely… But trust me, you are definitely not alone in these kind of experiences!

You are constantly aware of the crisis that is unfolding on our planet, which is so much bigger then you, and so you find it difficult to keep boundaries to protect your own well-being. And so you keep showing up, but inside the candle is burning up ….

However, it turns out that many of you reach a point in their lives where they have forgotten how important it is to nurture this connection on a daily basis. You may be so focused on doing the science, creating the policies, fighting to protect … or whatever it is that you are doing, that you don’t give yourself the time to daily connect, to deeply enjoy and to reap all the benefits from Nature Connection for your physical and mental health.
